About

Small consultancy. Big impact.

Better stores. Better choices. Better business.

Omnibus is an independent retail consultancy helping retailers, distributors and consumer brands discover and unlock their hidden potential.

We believe the best stores are not simply those that sell more. They make shopping easier, offer products people genuinely value, and give customers a reason to return.

Our mission is to help create stores and offers worth coming back to.

Commercial results follow when we get the fundamentals right.

We believe in remarkable retail

There is more to retail growth than price cuts, promotions and endless assortment expansion.

Sometimes the biggest opportunities are hiding in plain sight: a great product in the wrong place, an overloaded shelf, an overlooked shopper need, or a store that could work much better with the resources it already has.

We look for these opportunities — and help turn them into meaningful improvements.

For shoppers. For businesses. And for the people who make stores work.

From insight to real improvement

Our work combines four disciplines:

  • Retail intelligence: Finding the patterns, problems and untapped opportunities behind the numbers.

  • Shopper understanding: Connecting business decisions with real shopping missions, needs and behaviours.

  • Strategy and decisions: Choosing the right levers rather than applying the same solution to every problem.

  • Execution and learning: Testing improvements in real stores, measuring the results and making successful practices repeatable.

Our Sortimana program brings these together through analytics, decision tools, practical workshops and pilot projects.

Experience that makes a difference

Over 25 years, Omnibus founder Simon Hernaus has worked with leading retailers and consumer brands, helping teams improve category management, assortment, inventory productivity and store performance.

His experience spans projects with organisations including Coca-Cola, Heineken, Petrol and other major retail and consumer-goods businesses.

The work ranges from developing category management capabilities and redesigning store layouts to facilitating strategic workshops and executing measurable retail improvements.

One example: A pilot category redesign reduced inventory value by 70%, while increasing sales by 10.4%.

Behind every successful project is the same principle: understand the real problem before choosing the solution.

Meet Simon

Retail consultant. Lecturer. Writer. Curious observer.

I’m the founder of Omnibus.

For more than 25 years, I’ve been exploring how stores work, how shoppers make decisions, and how businesses can turn complexity into better choices.

My work has taken me from planograms and category management to data intelligence, strategic decision-making, workshops and the practical use of AI.

But numbers are only part of the story.

I’m also a published, award-winning fiction writer and an enthusiastic traveller. Both have taught me to pay attention to people, context and the stories behind what we see.

I bring that curiosity into my consulting work.

I enjoy helping teams discover something they hadn’t noticed before — and then turning that discovery into a change they can see and sustain.
